I took piano for 9 years growing up. My family had a piano teacher that would come to our house every week and teach me and my siblings how to read and write sheet music, music theory, piano playing skills, and the basics of writing songs.
When I was about 10 years old, I entered my first composition to the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra in the songwriting competition for children. To my delight, I won! A whole symphony played the song I had written on my piano: “Carriage Ride”.
I become more and more in love with the piano and music in general. I was obsessed with “The Piano Guys” on YouTube, I played for fun all the time, I would play while people sang along at social get togethers, and I was determined to be at the “advanced” level of a piano player!
I learned many compositions while I was taking lessons, but after I finished those and became busy with college, I started writing my own music more for fun, especially music where I could worship the Lord or tell a meaningful story.
I joined a worship band at a college ministry and played and sang at different churches. I even became a part of a small group of friends where we just met up to do songwriting on our own!
I am so excited to publish my first EP where I tell stories of God’s goodness and invite listeners to sing praise and thanks to our Creator!
