Objective

Courtney was looking for someone on Fiver to design her new food blog. While she was fairly ok with designing things herself, she wanted someone to guide her along in the process and make sure everything would go as it needed to. After some back and forth messaging, she decided to work with me and we got started right away!

Solution & Skills

I designed this website using the Gourmetto theme and the block editor in WordPress.com. Whatever the theme did not have, I was able to customize using CSS in the WordPress theme customizer. Courtney wanted an earthy looking website, thus the greens and tans for the colors. She already had a logo, so I designed the website around the logo to make it uniform and consistent. I designed templates for the archive pages, search results, and posts, and I built the home page and about page.

Courtney wanted to inject ads into her website to monetize the blog, so I decided to use JetPack since the plugin was already installed and includes that feature. I installed the Recipe Card Blocks plugin so that inserting recipes into her posts would be quick, easy, and follow the same format for each post. Luckily, she got the hang of it very quickly and started posting recipes before Thanksgiving!

Finally, I put together a how to document that explained everything she needed to know about how to make a post in WordPress and how to move forward with the website.

Courtney was so easy to work with and made the job so much fun. She gave great feedback and was always happy to answer any questions I had.
